As the Director of Nursing (DON) for the Minnesota Veterans Home Domiciliary Program, you will provide essential leadership and oversight of clinical services for both the Hastings and Minneapolis locations. In this role, you will guide, direct, and support the nursing teams and supervisory staff in delivering high-quality care that meets the health needs of all residents across both sites. You will work closely with Home Administrators to ensure clinical services meet regulatory requirements and agency standards of practice and collaborate with the Medical Director and community-based providers to ensure the availability of key clinical resources - including primary care, mental health, chemical dependency, hospice and specialty services.
Other job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Supervising nursing staff and ensuring effective performance of assigned duties.
Planning, proposing, and submitting budget requests to support nursing programs and staffing standards.
Supervise staff scheduling to ensure work schedules meet residents' care needs, are fiscally responsible, and comply with collective bargaining agreements.
Perform Officer of the Day (OD) duties as assigned, including participation in an on-call rotation with nursing leadership.
Commute independently between the Minnesota Veterans Home Domiciliary Program in Hastings and Minneapolis to provide ongoing oversight and support.
The Minnesota Veterans Home Domiciliary (DOM) Program is an independent living community for Veterans. It provides a supportive environment that fosters a stable, healthy, and meaningful life for Veterans. Our rewarding program helps Veterans with their clinical, mental, chemical, and physical needs, and has the capacity to serve 195 Veterans between the Hastings and Minneapolis campuses. The Hastings DOM is located in the southeast metro with connecting highways for an easy commute. The beautiful 128-acre wooded campus includes mature oaks and pines, nature trails and biking paths overlooking the Vermillion River.
The Minneapolis DOM is located on Minnehaha Avenue, which has connecting highways and public transportation options for an easy commute. The beautiful 53-acre wooded campus includes mature oaks and pines, nature trails and biking paths overlooking the Mississippi River.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed in Minnesota as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions and in good standing.
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and/or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross or ability to be certified by the date of hire.
Three years of experience supervising nursing staff who provide direct patient care in long-term care or other post-acute healthcare environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills sufficient to effectively lead and supervise others and develop a work culture of open, accurate and timely communication.
Communication skills sufficient to communicate effectively with others and prepare and present information to various individuals and groups.
Valid driver's license or the ability to commute independently between the Minnesota Veterans Home Domiciliary Program in Hastings and Minneapolis, to statewide meetings and other business-related travel.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Veterans and/or vulnerable adults
Bachelor's or advanced degree in Nursing
Leadership experience in a union environment
Experience managing employees in varied work locations
Demonstrated success in survey performance
Experience developing nursing staffing plans using evidence-based strategies
Additional Requirements
A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
Employment references checks will be conducted on all finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the former employer(s).
Finalists may be required to pass a driver's license check.
